I began fishing with my grandfather, Papa, in the early 1970's. I was 3 or 4 years old when we'd go out in his 12' aluminum boat and catch a 5 gallon bucket full of perch. I broke the first rod Papa ever gave me and he fixed it with a piece of brass tubing. That rod fished for years with that fix.
As I began my own family, I made sure that they were included my fishing adventures. Today we fish all over the PNW. Sockeye and chinook salmon, walleye, bass, and perch on the Mighty Columbia. Steelhead, salmon and walleye on the Snake River. And halibut, albacore, salmon, ling cod, bottom fish, crab and shrimp on the Pacific Ocean and the Strait of Juan de Fuca.

I was fascinated with how Papa repaired my broken rod. He was always good with his hands. I have broken many rods since that first one. Typically I'd start over with a new one. However, I have a rod that I inherited from Papa. It's nothing special, as far as rods go, but it has sentimental value. I found several of the guide wraps coming loose and decided to fix them. That project went OK, but I was "hooked" (pun intended).
I began doing my research on how to build a custom fishing rod and dove right in. After a few years of building for many different types of PNW fishing, I decided to start sharing these experiences with others, which has led me to you!
